Cloister of Ardeshir

Cloister of Ardeshir

The Cloister of Ardeshir (Artaxerxes) is an ancient building which is located in the town of Dashtestān (Bushehr region) and dates back to the apasasanid period. The building with a cross-shaped and barrel-vaulted surface, very similar to the Ardeshir palace in Firouzābād, was built with stone and cement mortar.

In the upper part of the cloister there is a stone column that was probably used to light the fire, for warning or for surveillance. Most likely this building was a place of rest and hunting in the desert. But according to the popular beliefs of the people of Dashtestān, it was the place where the bones of the Sasanian kings were kept.
