Gran Paradiso Film Festival prize goes to Iran

The Gran Paradiso Film Festival prize, awarded to “The song of a little owl's”

On the Iranian film by Mehdi Nourmohammadi "The song of a little owl", which won the Ibecco d'Oro at the 26th edition of the Gran Paradiso Film Festival, the vote of the public jury and that of the technical jury was unanimous, thus motivating his choice: “this completely original film, despite not having a narration in words, told a truly magical, yet tragic story, with elegance and humor.”

Without a narrative voice, the beauty of this film lies in the strength of the images: no words are needed to follow the story of the two owls as protagonists, but it is nature that makes the full power of its voice heard. A film shot in a country, Iran, where sensitivity towards environmental protection is not yet so developed and documentaries like this can be the spark for new conservation paths.

"In this edition, as never before, we have witnessed a Festival that has become a laboratory for reflection on the great theme of the relationship between man and nature. Nature cinema is an extraordinary vehicle for cultural study, capable of telling everyone about the emotions, the most remote places and those we pass through every day, the world we come from and the challenges of the future. The winning film "The song of a little owl" is a delicate, tragic and touching little jewel of Iranian cinema, which manages to gather everyone's consent with just the images and sounds of nature. Alongside the cinema we have proposed meetings that have opened up our horizons and helped us to think before taking ideological positions. Images, words and emotions that have made us richer and more aware”, declared Luisa Vuillermoz, artistic director of the festival.

Corrado Jordan, president of Fondation Grand Paradis, adds: “Qhis twenty-sixth edition of the Gran Paradiso Film Festival wanted to make viewers aware of the actions and commitments that each of us can concretely implement for the environment that surrounds us. The over 5000 attendances, both during the film screening and during the interventions of the invited personalities, as well as the large participation in the popular jury are a great satisfaction and encourage us to continue our activities with ever more motivation than commitment. "

The Festival continues online and in the Gran Paradiso valleys until 17 August. All events are free. It is necessary to book on the site www.gpff.it
