Hasir bāfi (weaving wicker)

Hasir bāfi (the art of weaving wicker) – an expression that also includes the art of weaving bamboo (Bāmbu bāfi), twigs (Tarkeh bāfi) or other – consists of weaving, by means of the hands and some rudimentary tools , of strings obtained from cellulose fibers (vegetable), for the purpose of creating and distributing the most diverse products (such as drapes, plates, etc.). As regards the Chigh bāfi, it is urgent to remember that during the weaving we used - as well as vegetable fibers – also colored wool yarn for the creation of designs and traditional motifsNowadays, wherever it is possible to find date palm leaves, stalks of wheat, rushes and twigs – in areas both in the north and in the south of Iran – it is possible to recognize signs of the presence of the Hasir bāfi. Yet, this industry enjoys a particular vigor in the Provinces of Sistān and Baluchestān, Khuzestān, Kordestān, Hormozgān, Bushehr, Khorāsān, Kermān, Yazd, Fārs, Māzandarān, Gilān, Eastern Āzarbāyjān and Tehrān.
