East Azerbaijan province is located in the northwest of Iran and borders the Republic of Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Nakhjavan region. The border town of Jolfa can be connected to the Black Sea ports in Ukraine via the Nakhjavan-Irvan-Tiflis railway line. The capital of the region is Tabriz and other important cities include Maraqeh, Marand, Mianeh, Ahar and Jolfa.
