Jamkaran Mosque

The Jamkaran mosque is located near the village of the same name and on the outskirts of the city of Qom (region of the same name) and its construction dates back to the fourth century of the lunar Hegira. The building of this religious place in different periods has been repaired and rebuilt.

The mosque is also known by other names such as: Sāheb Al-Zamān (attributed to Imam Zamān, twelfth Imam of the Shiites) and Qadamgāh mosque; until the year 1979 was a small building but after the Islamic revolution it was considerably expanded.

The complex presents 6 entrances, an external area, a main courtyard, two Shabestan, the Maqām mosque and the administrative buildings. The construction of the Shabestan principal of the Jamkarān mosque, it is called Maqām mosque, theIwan input connects to it thanks to three inputs and around theIwan there are two 60 meters high minarets.

Lo Shabestan it has eight columns and the dome with an iron structure is laid on them. At the base of the dome 23 windows have been installed that provide light to the Shabestan. The inner surface of the dome is adorned with majolica inlaid with a combination of bricks. Also the columns, the mihraāb,Iwan of entry of the Shabestan and the two minarets around are decorated with tiles.

The inner parts of the columned prayer halls have mirror workings and each has two symmetrical domes. Some religious rites take place in this mosque and many faithful from different parts of Iran, particularly on Tuesday and Wednesday nights of each week, come here to take part.
