Great Bazaar Covered with Qom
The great bazaar of Qom is located in the ancient historical center of the city (Qom region) and every part of this historical complex was built at different times and with the passage of time has been expanded. In general the buildings of this place belong to the Seljuk, ilkhanide, safavid, qajaro and pahlavi periods.
The Qom bazaar complex, which contains precious treasures of traditional artistic and architectural works, includes: two boards covered by a dome, a chahārsuq (large space located in the intersection of two passages of a bazaar, generally covered by a dome), gods Sara, (commercial complex without roof and ancient caravanserais), i timcheh (construction of a bazaar consisting of a high coverage of the central area surrounded by environments), the hojre (environments where goods are exchanged and stored) mosques and prayer rooms; air circulation and lighting of the bazaar take place thanks to openings that are located in the dome roof. These are located above the dome, are in the shape of a circle and on both sides.
The construction materials used in the Qom bazaar which was initially built in a linear and continuous manner are the raw brick, the brick, the mud and the stone. The different parts of this complex often took their name from the goods, services, and trades that were carried out here or from the name of their founders such as: the bazaar of the coppersmiths, the shoemakers and the sarā-ye banahā, sarā-ye sadr a'zam, sarā-ye hamedāniha, sarā-ye Hāj Asgar Khān, sarā-ye Hāj Abbāsgholi etc. ..
Finally, the socio-economic changes of the last decades have gradually changed the traditional structure of the bazaar and new and more modern spaces such as shopping centers have replaced parts of the ancient buildings.
