Rafi Church

Rafi Church

The Rafi church is located in the city of Qazvin (region of the same name) and its construction dates back to the time of the first pahlavi.

It is located in the courtyard of one madrasa bearing the same name, a place that since ancient times was an educational and devotional complex of the Armenians of Qazvin.

The church has a brick cross-shaped building and its main area is rectangular in shape and its four tall columns are joined by some arches. In the central space of the Rafi church there is an altar which is separated from the chapel by a few steps. On the two sides of the altar there are two small rooms.

The door of the church Rafi 'has access to an octagonal environment under the bell tower. The entrance is in the shape of a semicircle. In addition to the public religious rite, each year this church hosts the special ceremony "of the departure and ascension of the Virgin Mary" which takes place in conjunction with the "feast of the consecration of grapes" in the month of August and the Armenian cultural associations go to in this sacred and historic place on a pilgrimage.
