Osku

The city of Osku is the capital of the district of the same name on the slopes of Mount Sahand (eastern Azerbāijān region). Osku, with a historical and millenary past, is located at 1579 meters above sea level.

In this area the rivers Kandovān Chāy, Osku Chāy and Malā Heidar Ārakhi flow, making the area green. Among the natural and historical attractions of Osku are the villages, each with unique characteristics such as "Kandovān", dating back to 7 thousand years ago, which has the houses carved into the volcanic rock in the shape of beehives ("Karān" is the name of these dwellings, most of which are two-storied and some four-sided), the rock-hewn village "Hileh Var" in the heights of Mount Sahand (inactive volcano) which has a unique architectural style with houses carved into the heart of the cell-shaped rock in an excellent way that they enjoy a sufficient concealment, the village of "Gonbarf" which, due to the abundant production of roses, is known as the flower country of Mohammad (Rosa damascena), the village of Ansarood etc ..

Among the other historical places and buildings of this area that deserve a visit, the following can be mentioned: the Gugeli pond (a beautiful lake on the slopes of Mount Chāngil), the ancient hammam Milān (relating to the Safavid era), the mausoleums by Allah Bandesi, Pir Heidar, Seyed Hossein Ben Seyed Abdolghafār Oskui, the Imāmzādeh Adbolghafār, the Pāytakht mosques, Jām'eh, Osku, Oujuzlu, Sabze Meidān, the ancient plane tree, the stone park of Milān, the Osku miniatures museum, local residence ll Bāghi etc ..

Osku is also considered the main center in the region of eastern Azerbaijan where laboratories are concentrated batik (method of printing on fabric), reference point of this art-industry in the country and one of the important centers of production of silk fabrics.

The most popular souvenirs of Osku are the grape syrup, the walnut halva, the myānpor (type of sweet filling) and bread.
