Hammam Kordasht

The Kordasht hammam is located in the village of the same name in the province of Jolfā (eastern Azerbājān region). Its construction dates back to the Safavid period and in the qajaro period it has been restored. In the beginning this hammam was used only by kings and notables but later, at the beginning of the qajara era, even ordinary people could use it.

The historic Kordasht hammam, which was built with authentic traditional architecture on the banks of the river Aras and in the middle of a large garden, has an octagonal vestibule, an entrance door, an eight-sided dressing room that connects to the khazineh, a large dome on the wall and eight octagonal stone columns with capitals carved in muqarnas that thanks to the liquid lead mortar are attached to the columns; the dome of the dressing room has interesting work in lime and the seats of the environment are covered with barrel vaults and below are placed some kafshkan (narrow vestibules, semi-open that connect the courtyard to the surrounding spaces) in carved stone.

The calidarium or the khazineh It has four octagonal stone columns, two large rectangular basins and a room with a dome covered with bitumen. The light inside the dressing room and the calidarium is procured by a small opening at the top of the dome.

This hammam next to seven other buildings such as: the palace, the small hammam, the Gharib mosque, the main square, the glacier, the Abbās Mirzā castle and the Sakhlu (military barracks) make up the historical Kordasht complex which welcomes local and foreign tourists
