Gate Of The Quran

Gate of the Quran

The gate of the Koran is one of the historical gates of the city of Shirāz in the Fārs region, located at the entrance to the city on the way to Esfahān, near Tang Allah Akbar and between the Bābā Kuhi mountains and Chehel Maqām. Today it is considered one of the historical works of this city.
The name of this gate, which in the past was also called the Arco del Corano, is the presence of a Koran above the high arch. This door includes a high arch in the middle and two arches not very high on both sides. This was built in the Fārs region at the time of the Buiydi reign in the tenth century when Shirāz was the capital of Iran. Even a Qur'an was placed there so that the travelers, passing beneath it, would receive the blessing and finish the journey without problems.
With the passage of time the arch broke and was destroyed; in the period of the reign of the Zand it was rebuilt and in the upper part a room was added in which two copies of the precious Koran were placed.
These Korans are known as "Hifdah Man" and today they are kept at the Pārs museum, located in the Nazar garden of Shirāz.
This door has been destroyed, rebuilt and restored many times and a verse of the Holy Quran has been written throughout the building. This historic building is located next to the Tāvvasieh roundabout of Shirāz, less than 10 meters from the mausoleum of Khavājuye Kermāni, less than 500 meters from the Jahān Namā garden and less than 1000 meters from the mausoleum of the famous Persian poet Hāfez Shirāzi.
Except the door of the Qur'an, Shirāz in the past had other 5 ports called Esfahān Gate, Sa'di Gate, Qasābkhāne Gate, Kāzerun Gate and Shāh Dā'i Ali Ale Gate. Although these doors no longer exist, however their names are alive in people's memory and are still used today to give directions.
