MAUSOLEUM EMAMZADE MAHRUQ and KHAYYAM TOMB

MAUSOLEUM EMAMZADE MAHRUQ and KHAYYAM TOMB.

Located in the town of Nishapur, the Emamzade is one of the best preserved Late Timurid buildings in the region. With Emamzade an immediate successor of one of the twelve is indicated em of the Twelver Shiite religion.

The building has a rectangular plan, with a monumental entrance with a portico almost 9 meters high and finely decorated a moqarnas. The dome rises 5 meters from the top of the building and the remains of Imamzade Mahruq are kept underneath it. The external surface is entirely covered with mosaics; particularly interesting is the presence of inscriptions: one is engraved on a brick and bears the year 1119 H (i.e. 1708 AD), while others, belonging to the period of Shah Tahmasp (1514-1576), are found in the portico at the entrance .

In the immediate vicinity of this building there is a monument dedicated to another important personality of the Iranian world: the poet Omar Khayyam. This monument really has a particular shape: developed above all in height, it has an iron and stone structure modeled according to geometric interweaving.
