ALIABAD TOWER or Kashmar Tower

AliAbad Tower.

The Aliabad tower dates back to the 18th century and is located in the village of Aliabad in the vicinity of the city of Bardaskan in the province of Mashad. The tower is about 42 meters high, and is equipped with a double wall, with an external diameter of 21 m and an internal one of 5 m; the external cladding is made of bricks decorated with geometric motifs and culminates with a conical dome at least 31 meters higher than the internal structure, reaching XNUMX meters in height at the apex. Two corresponding holes have been applied between the two coatings to ensure lighting and air exchange. The recognizable architectural style is that of the architecture of the Safavid era. The function of this building is not entirely clear: some scholars think it was an observatory to calculate the solar calendar, or a sort of refreshment station for travelers along the busy road that connected Khorasan with the territories of central Persia .

It is located not far from today's town of Bardaskan.
