Konar Sandal archaeological hill

The archaeological area of Konār Sandal located south of the city of Jiroft (Kermān region) dates back to the Bronze Age and the prehistoric period of ancient Iran, thus representing one of the sites of considerable historical importance of this area with an ancient antiquity at 3 thousand years before Christ.

This archaeological area includes two hills: the northern and the southern ones, a few kilometers from one another, whose height is respectively 13 and 21 meters. The southern, almost elliptical, Konār Sandal hill is made up of the remains of a castle that was built in the center of a city in the ancient world, and during the excavations a part of the city's urban residential walls and spaces has come to light.

The northern Konār Sandal hill can be considered what remains of an imposing and solemn religious building which, in terms of size, is much larger than the ziggurats known in Miān Rudān and Iran. This magnificent structure, of which two enormous platforms were found, was most likely erected on three floors and with millions of pieces of raw bricks. It seems that the Konār Sandal hills were parts of a large city that stretched from two to three kilometers.

Archaeologists consider this place "an independent civilization of the Bronze Age with its own architecture and language" and the remains of a lost kingdom of Aratta. Some objects found in this area as: earthenware and stone crockery, pieces of soapstone and bronze objects are kept in the archaeological museum of Jiroft.
