Strait Arghavan
The Arghavān strait is located north of the city of Ilām (region of the same name) and is considered one of the forest and recreational areas of this city. It, with an area of 170 hectares, derives its name from the numerous trees of the Cercis Silliquastrum species or Judas tree present in the area.
This strait, in the course of a river with flowers and trees of Judah, has made nature and the green forests of that region of unparalleled beauty.
The Judas tree that sometimes reaches 12 meters, grows mostly in the form of a tree and its leaves are heart-shaped, with smooth sides without filaments. This plant is a rare and endangered species.
At the beginning of spring and in the month of ordibehestht, the valley of Arghavān is at the peak of its splendor; in this month the trees are filled with flowers, creating a spectacular and relaxing setting. Before the leaves of the tree grow, these flowers appear on the branches of the trees and even on the bark of the trunk grouped in bunches of three to six specimens and, because of their copious flowering, they are very showy.
The Judas tree is one of the most beautiful forest species of Ilām and this area can be considered the main birthplace of this plant.
