Ancient city of Seymareh

The ancient city of Seymareh is located in the district of Darreh Shahr (region Ilām) and as an ancient capital of the Sassanids its construction dates back to the end of the Sasanian period and to the first centuries of the Islamic one. It seems that this city, due to the earthquake that occurred in the year 334 of the moon Hegira, was destroyed and remained uninhabited.

Seymareh (Mādāktu) is located west and south-west of Darreh Shahr, meaning the oldest city of Darreh Shahr is called Seymareh. Mādāktu was his previous name. With an area of over 200 hectares, it is the largest historical site in the Ilām region.

Here, unique stucco work has been found that is unparalleled in its kind. The manor house or Arbābi, the mosque building, the places on the edge of the dam and those on the outskirts of the city, are some of those found in the excavations carried out in this archaeological area.
