Maranjab Desert
The Maranjab desert is located north of the town of Ārān and Bidgol (Esfahan region). The average height of this desert above sea level is approximately 850 meters. Most of it is covered with sand dunes and is rich in vegetation.
Among the animals present in this area we can mention the wolf, the jackal, the hyena, the fox of Ruppelli, the sand cat, the varanus, the chameleon, various types of lizards, the snake, the scorpion, the golagrigia partridge, the eagle, the hawk and the cheetah.
The desert of Maranjāb took its name from a caravanserai (fortress) that the Shah Abbās Safavid had built here and from its qanāt (culvert) of fresh water.
Among the attractions of this desert one can mention the salt lake chāh Kange, the caravanserai of Maranjāb, the dastakan well, the rig-e boland (set of sand dunes), Mount Golnag, the fortress Karshāhi, the mountain Yakhāb and the Matin Ābād campsite.
The other attractions of this place are the camel ride, the motorcycle and off-road excursions.
