Temple of Mithras

The temple of Mithras is located on the island of Qeshm (Hormozgān region) and dates back to the Middle Ages. It with the architecture carved into the rock, is located in the heart of a mountain range along the route of the archaeological area of ​​Xarbaz / Xorbaz.

Access to this rocky environment is possible through cave-like openings with a number of nine in three rows. In the upper row there are six, at the edge of the center two and at the bottom one.

Behind these openings, in the heart of the rock and stone, a room with a surface of 25 square meters and 70/2 meters high has been excavated with a flat ceiling. According to some scholars, the set of these hand-dug caves with narrow corridors joined together, the halls, rooms, springs and openings were places of worship for the followers of Mithraism or where Ānāhitā (the goddess of water ), while some were shelters for livestock or shelters for helpless people.
