Manufacture of boats
One of the traditional industries on the island that has been modernized is the manufacture of boats, from small to large ones. Unesco has inscribed the art of building Lenj (small wooden boats) on the list of intangible cultural heritage, and the best place to witness these creations is the shipyard near the village of Laft. These fishing boats can be observed in different phases of construction, in the phase of paintings, up to the inauguration at sea. The workers still build the magnificent Lenj by hand, the traditional boats that for centuries have sailed the seas of the Indian Ocean, alternating with wonderful ancient architecture. The hammering with which the workers carve these magnificent boats resound in the air.
