Manufacture of boats
One of the traditional industries of the island that has been modernized is that of the manufacture of boats, from small ones to larger ones. UNESCO has inscribed the art of building the Lenj (small wooden boats), in the list of intangible cultural heritage, and the best place to witness these creations is the construction site near the village of Laft. These vessels can be observed in different phases of construction, in the phase of paintings, up to the inauguration at sea. The workers still build the magnificent Lenj by hand, the traditional boats that for centuries have crossed the seas of the Indian Ocean, alternating with marvelous ancient architecture. The hammers with which the workers sculpt these magnificent boats resonate in the air.
