Sar Aqa Seyyed village

Sar Aqa Seyyed village is located north of the city of Kouhrang (Chahār Mahāl and Bakhtiāri region) and dates back 600 years. Numerous stories circulate about its antiquity. The elders say that the sanctuary inside the village is at least 600 years old; the name of the place also has its roots in two local theories: 1-The sanctuary of Āqā Seyyed Isā was the only one in the city, the houses of the village were built at its feet and therefore it is called Sar Āqā Seyyed. 2-Many people came on pilgrimage to the shrine from nearby cities and in speech going to visit the tomb translated into going to Sar Āqā Seyyed and the name remained this.

The village has a stepped structure, is located at 2500 meters above sea level and has a mountain climate: in summer the climate is mild and in winter rigid and difficult to bear. In the construction of the houses, adobe, mud and wood were used. Houses don't have windows! The doors are very small and built with the wood of the trees of this region and all have two parts, interconnected, one for the inhabitants of the house and the other for the birds and livestock that is kept here.

This remote village, in addition to its actual antiquity and historical context, has attracted everyone's attention for aspects related to pilgrimage and tourism; in the months of ordibehesht (May) and khordād (June) the nomads from the hot areas of Khuzestān enter the Chahār Mahāl and Bakhtiāri region passing through the Sar Āqā Seyyed village giving life to suggestive scenarios.
