The epigraph of Rokh
The epigraph of Rokh was carved at the time of the Shāh Abbās II Safavid in the year 1602 (lunar Hegira) on the northern slopes of the Rokh pass on the ancient road Esfahan-Khuzestān. The Shāh Abbās II with the construction of a tunnel through the fissure of the Kārkanān mountain near Koohrang, intended to connect the water of the mouth of the Kārun to that of the sources of the Zāyande Rud; he went personally to Koohrang to inspect the progress of the works by ordering to build a suitable road on the slopes of the mountain of Rokh, whose explanation is found in the text of the epigraph.
