Choghakhor Lagoon
The Choghakhor lagoon is located near the city of Baldāji in the province of Borujen (Chahār Mahāl and Bakhtiāri region). This interesting international lagoon covers an area of about 2300 hectares, is 3 meters deep (when it rains and there is plenty of water) and is located at 2100 meters above sea level in the central mountains of the Zagros in the middle of a green plain with a surface of 700 hectares.
Its name is said to derive from the union between the Persian word "khor", sun and the Turkish word "choghā", hill and meadow, or "meadow of the sun". This lagoon, whose water is provided by the rain, snow and springs of the area, so wide, with a mild climate, beautiful panoramas and the presence of various species of migratory and local birds, together with the customs and traditions of the Bakhtiāri nomads , attracts many visitors who come here to photograph the intact nature of the area, for birdwatching, for fishing, for rowing, for trekking, for cycling and simply for walking.
