Chehel Dokhtarān mausoleum
The Chehel Dokhtarān mausoleum (lit: of the forty girls) or Chehel Dokhtar tower or Chehel Dokhtarān sanctuary is located in the city of Dāmghān (Semnān region). This historical monument dates back to the year 1054; in the beginning it was made of adobe raw and with the passage of time it was built from scratch and built in a style similar to Rey's Toghrol tower and the Rādkān obelisk.
A group of historians believe that the name chehel dokhtar or chehel dokhtarān can be attributed to the pre-Islamic era. This brick building with a circular roof due to its solidity has remained intact and has no traces of ruin.
Outside this tower there is an inscription which is very difficult to read, and above the small door there is a stucco inscription showing the name of the builder of this historic monument.
The internal plan of the tower is in the shape of a circle and its central body as well as the external façade is cylindrical in shape. The inner part of the tower is covered by a dome-shaped cover and in the middle of it there is a fissure that has been obstructed.
The entire surface is covered with stucco and the part of the floor with brick. At the center of the tower there is a simple stucco sepulcher whose owner is not known.
