Tarikhane Mosque (Tarikhche)

The Mosque of Tarikhane (Tarikhche)

the Khodaykhane or Tarikhane complex was built around the year 300 of the lunar ecyre and is located in the city of Damghan. This mosque is considered as the model of beauty and perfection of the mosques of the first centuries of the Islamic period. The architectural style derives from that of the Sassanid era. The Tarikhane Mosque has a central courtyard that is surrounded by a covered portico. The nocturnal prayer hall is held on eighteen circular columns that have a meter and a half in diameter, as reported by the Kufic inscriptions of the mosque. The current minaret is 25 meters high and was built for the will of Bakhtiyar ebn-e Mohammad in the fifth century of the lunar ego. Over the centuries, the structure of this mosque has been remodeled and restored several times, however, after Fahraj's Masjid-e-Jamé (The Great Mosque), it is regarded as one of Iran's oldest mosques.
