Historical site of Khorhe

The historical site of Khorhe (the place where the sun rises) is located north-east of the city of Mahallāt (Markazi region). Historians and archaeologists have mentioned this set of remains and columns that remained from the ancient periods of Iran as a temple of fire, a mausoleum, a palace, a center for festivals and national and religious ceremonies, a place of summer residence and a cemetery.

The historical building of Khorhe with an area of ​​about 3550 square meters, includes three parts: theIwan the main part was the northern and western part. It had 12 stone columns of 6 pieces over 9 meters high arranged in two rows and the wall in the four sides; of this set two columns remain, the remains of those collapsed, a part of the stone parapets, the tombs, the arches of adobe, some buried rooms and traces of works found in the different phases of the excavation operations in this area.

The researches carried out and the findings found in the plateau and in the heights of Khorhe such as: the terracotta oil lamp, jugs with handle, spherical jugs, pieces of decorative stone and glass, metal objects and man's skeletons dating back to the Seleucid period, of the Arsacidi and the Sassanids and the Islamic period, show that the previous occupation and the antiquity of the area dates back to the second millennium BC
