Palace Kolah Farhangi
The Kolah Farhangi palace is located in the center of the town of Birjand (southern Khorāsān region). This historic monument that was once the government residence, is also known by the following names: citadel Kolāh farhangi, citadel Hesām Aldouleh, Bi Bi Arus palace and Sarkār citadel and dates back to the end of the Zand period and to the beginning of the qajaro (between the 1264 and 1313 lunar years).
This building, located between pine trees, is hexagonal in shape and on the top of a circular shape and white in color; the building, of particular appearance similar to the ziggurat, has six floors of which only two have a specific function while the others have an ornamental purpose; the materials used are mud, bricks, lime and cement; at the beginning it was also equipped with two ventilation towers which, following restoration and reconstruction, were eliminated.
The Kolāh farhangi palace consists of some important parts:
- Entrance to the citadel
the space of the entrance to the citadel is located a little further on from the ground floor and with some beautiful and remarkable vault has given life to a series of arches.
-Ground floor
The ground floor with the most complete plant and an ideal creation of space, enjoys a particular position in this building. This part has several spaces similar to a vestibule, domes and rooms that are connected by finely decorated corridors.
- The environment of the howz-Khaneh (area covered with a central basin, generally raised)
Uno howz-Khaneh octagonal with various architectural decorations is located in the center of the first floor and is about one meter lower than the main floor. Around this area with blind arches and muqarnas very beautiful at the bottom of the tub area there are narrow seats in the number of arches.
The beautiful fountain of the howz-Khaneh emanates fragrant air in the building. The skylight windows and the Kolāh farhangi dome spread the light in this part. There are several entrances from the perimeter to this place.
- First floor of the building
On the ground floor an octagonal space has been built, whose environment is smaller than the ground floor and in which some rooms have been built.
Currently the Kolāh farhangi palace, known as the jewel of Birjand, is the residence of the administration of this city.
