Rostam fortress
The Rostam Khusf fortress is located in the village of Ganj, in the town of Khusf (Southern Khorāsān region) and is among the main fortresses of the Ishmaites of Gahestān whose original construction dates back to the Sasanian era and was later rebuilt and used again.
This fortress, which is located on a high hill, because it was not easy to reach, its environments suffered minor damage and it is said that, due to its difficult path that was not accessible to anyone, it took the name of "fortress" Rostam ".
The remaining buildings comprise a set of towers, of Talar, buildings scattered around the mountain slopes, access steps, cisterns and the well in the middle of the fortress. The structures were built mostly with stones fallen from the mountain; in this area you can see large quantities of brick adobe (brick) demonstrating the fact that some buildings were built in bricks.
Currently in this place you can see seven circular sighting towers and remains of another tower in stone and cement mortar, numerous underground spaces in the area of the fortress including the most important are seven Talar in stone and brick next to the towers, the main cistern of the complex with stone walls and cement mortar, the well in the center of the fortress seven meters deep, stone steps in different parts to access the top of the mountain and the fortress, a small room and the walls around the mountain.
In the area of this fortress there are remains of glazed and simple ceramics that date back to pre and post Islamic times. In some texts the fortress of Rostam is also called Fortress Dokhtar.
