Ancient fortress Hassan Ābād

Ancient fortress Hassan Abad

The ancient fortress Hassan Abad, known as the Dokhtar fortress, is located near the village of the same name in the town of Ferdows (southern Khorāsān region) and dates back to the Ismailis period, to the fifth and sixth centuries of the lunar Hegira.

This fortress that was built on a mountain with stone, plaster mortar and cement, has some stone walls and in them you can see the remains of a hammam, a tower, bastions and large iron nails.

This is one of the 70 fortresses that were located in the southern Khorāsān. It has a brick tunnel that is joined to the Kuh fortress, another of the ancient Ismailite fortresses and through another underground way is connected to the center of the historical city of Tun.

Inside this underground tunnel were found many corpses placed next to each other wearing tunics with Islamic symbols and verses from the Koran.
