Castle Furg
The castle Furg is located in the village of the same name in the town of Darmiyān (southern Khorāsān region) and its construction is remembered at the behest of Nāder Shāh Afshār (year 1160 lunar egira).
The historic castle Furg or castle "Mirzā Rafi'a Khān" which is located on a rock spur, was built with stone, bricks,adobe, wood, cement, gypsum and earth on three levels with two walls and numerous towers and having an ancient fortress, public spaces around, etc., gave life to a complete Iranian citadel.
The internal spaces comprise three parts: the first housed the servants' residence, the warehouse of food and fodder supplies, the place of cattle shelter, the cistern, perimeter spaces to it or purification plants, the second was the residence of the soldiers and guards and the place where the military provisions of the tower were kept adobe, the provisions of food and two mosques, winter and summer, and the third part, the most important of the castle, was the residence of the governor and those close to him, which was divided by the second through two towers and solid walls. high.
The castle in the complex had 18 towers and currently there are 13. Among the other defensive structures we can mention two underground tunnels, one of which had 340 steps and continued towards the fields, while the second continued towards the river.
On the height of the walls and towers there are also structures with pinnacles and you can see loopholes for sighting and defense. This castle until the end of the qajaro period and the beginnings of that pahlavi was used as a military border outpost.
