Akbarieh Garden
The Akbarieh palace and garden complex is located in the city of Birjand (southern Khorāsān region). Its construction, which took place in various stages, is related to the end of the Zand era and the beginning of the Qajar era. It was used as a residence, accommodation for guests and as a place for governmental functions.
This complex with raw brick walls, which covers an area of over 45 thousand square meters, is located in a mountainous area and consists of two gardens, one north and one south with numerous imposing and shady trees, fruit, plants officinal and decorative and from some palace; the old two-storey one, whose ground floor with two relatively long corridors and vestibules connects the three important parts of the complex, namely the main garden, the southern garden and the stable, and the central or ceremonial palace, the central core of the garden which includes the hall of mirrors, a dome with a cylindrical top, decorations a muqarnas honeycomb with ornaments that create a magnificent setting.
The entrance area of the garden has a portal with a decorated ceiling muqarnas and currently in this historical complex there are a library, various museums such as the archaeological and anthropological one, the wildlife, the models and the culture of the Khorāsān and its famous people, a traditional restaurant and a tea room.
This garden has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
