The Shrines of Baba Tavakol and Mir Motahar

The Baba Tavakkol and Mir Motahar shrine is located near Babalangar village, in a mountainous area near Shirvan.

Babalangar is located along the route of the religious pilgrimage that leads to the haram of Mashhad: Naser ad-Din Shah himself stayed there during a pilgrimage, to demonstrate his devotion and respect for the shrine he left a memorial on the inner wall of Baba Tavakkol with ink.

The complex of buildings dates from the XNUMXth century AD and includes, in addition to the Baba Tavakkol and Mir Motaher tombs, a hammam, water cisterns, a fountain and four stone arches: it is considered one of the buildings with the greatest architectural value of its time.

MIR MOTAHAR

Entering the sacred area, the first building you come across is the Mir Motahar tomb: it has a rectangular plan, built with beaten earth, stone, limestone and stucco. The building has a porch, about eight meters high and a dome resting on an octagonal base.

Since 1982 the building has been included in the list of national artistic heritage and historical monuments.

BABA TAVAKOL

Like the previous one, the building has a rectangular plan and has a wooden dome in the center and an underground crypt. The walls are enriched with stucco decorations. The entrance, located on the south side, featured a door inlaid with geometric motifs, now preserved in the Sabzevar Cultural Heritage Museum.
