Together with Baba Aman, Besh Qardash is one of the places of natural resurgence in the district of the capital Bonjurd. In ancient times the town was known by the name of Chaharmaghan and housed a Zoroastrian place of worship: you can still see a stone engraved with one of the Zoroastrian maxims: good thoughts, good words and good deeds.
The current name, Besh qardash comes from the Turkish - Khorasanic Turkish is one of the linguistic minorities in the region - and it means five brothers. To explain the particular toponymy, the mythological reconstruction of the history of this place is used: legend has it that five brothers once inhabited the lands of present-day Bonjurd and that, dissatisfied by the brutal management by the rulers of the time, they rebelled. Later, persecuted by the king's henchmen, they dug graves in the surrounding hills where they hid and asked God for help. The next day the five brothers were gone! Fresh water gushed from the five dug pits: the five springs that we can still see today.
In the Qajar period (1794-1925), the Shah Naser al-Din, who took the throne from 1848 to 1896, ordered the construction of the first building near the springs. The characteristic crown-shaped basin also dates from this era, built only a few years later.
Today, Besh Qardash park is one of the main tourist attractions of Northern Khorasan, included since 2001 in the national heritage list of the Iranian Cultural Heritage, Handicraft and Tourism Organization.
