Teimouri Mausoleum

Teimouri Mausoleum

The Teimouri mausoleum is located next to Dah Ziārat near the town of Shirvān (northern Khorāsān region). The tomb building dates back to the Timurid period, around the year 785 of the lunar Hegira.

Some attribute it to "Eid Khāje", one of the famous generals of Amir Teimour Gorgāni, others to the son of Teimour and most to the Sheikh Teimour.

The building with the dome of the mausoleum is in adobe and its external facade is octagonal while the inside is square. This presents stucco work and above the portals all around is turquoise; the ornamental plaster motifs and the inscriptions surround the whole mausoleum, above the very large doors of the building are seen beautiful skylights and in a corner of the window mixed walls of clay and straw, drawings of enemy knights and an ocher red cypress.

Years ago, the crypt of the building and the wall surrounding it were brought to light. By means of stone stairs you can even reach the roof. In the past above the sepulcher there was a black stone. In some places this building has been reinforced with wood.

The mausoleum, which is located in the north-east part of the Imāmzādeh Hamzeh Rezā (A), has very large side tunnels below.

The name Shirvān is to be attributed to the figure of a lion whose shape is observed on the northern slopes of Mount Shir and according to ancient customs for which many of the cities were attributed to one of the kings, it is to be ascribed to Anushirvān.
