Gomishan, Gomishan hill
The city of Gomishan Tappeh is located on the Caspian Sea coast (Golestan region); this area dates back to the Parthian era and the presence of three important ancient sites such as: Kumush Dappeh Gik, the Kurehsoo hill (Islamic historical period) and Qezel Alang or defensive wall of Gorgan (Parthian and Sassanid period) testifies to this fact.
Gomishan has a flat aspect and due to its proximity to the sea it enjoys hot and humid summers and mild winters. The local name of the city of Gomishan Tappeh is Kumush Dappeh or Kamash Dappeh which means "silver hill".
The main tourist attractions of this area are the following:
- The ancient Abskun island which locals today call Kurehsoo which means stagnant water.
- The anthropological museum that is located in the historic Gulani house in the popular area of the city and presents some characteristic aspects of the Turkmen such as: the family, the warping of the carpet, the working of the felt, the weaving of the kilim, the embroidery, the creation of jewelry traditional and the weaving of wicker baskets making known also the local professions and traditional rites; in the rooms of the museum there are statues of women with typical headdresses of the area who wear brightly colored clothes intent on creating typical local handicrafts, or men with local clothing and ancient hats while they work. The floor of the rooms is covered with kilims and rugs and next to the walls there are red backrests made by hand by the Turkmen.
- Gol feshan gharn yargh: it is a natural volcanic phenomenon that today has the appearance of a cylindrical hill.
- Ancient houses of the city, some with three floors and many also with two floors; often these were completely built with wood and beams imported from the former Soviet Union and in their construction a particular architecture inspired by the buildings of the former USSR was used, visible externally in the wooden stairs in theIwan of the floors, in the first floor raised above the ground level and internally in the rooms one inside the other, in the vestibules, in the fireplaces etc ...
- The wall of Qezel Alang or Great Wall of Gorgan or red wall - in ancient texts called the red snake - is an ancient wall that starts next to the Caspian Sea in the northwest part of the city of Gomish Tappeh and continues up to the mountains of Galidagh, northeast of Kalaleh.
- The international lagoon of Gomishan which with its 17700 hectares of surface and an average depth of one and a half meters, is located north-east of Bandar-e Torkaman and west of Gomishan Tappeh and is the habitat of various species of flora and of fauna.
