Hammam Oruj

Hammam Oruj

The Oruj hammam is located in the city of Ramiyān (Golestān region) and dates back to the beginning of the reign of Mozaffaraddin Shāh Qājār. The plan of the building of the ancient public bath of Oruj, which is located in the old district of the city named Kohne Bāzār, is square and the materials used are the brick, remains of stones and cement mortar.

This hammam with two entrances consists of a dressing room, a place to wash and a khazineh, is equipped with twelve beautiful arches, two pools of hot and cold water, a tub, a place to wash your feet, a calidarium, a furnace and a domed roof (eight domes like skylights).

The water of this bath is procured from a spring located above the city of Ramiyān and by means of terracotta pipes it enters the basin and the basin of the hot water. The indoor environment is heated by the passage of hot air from the channels under the floor.

The hammam, due to its proximity to the Āgh Avāyeli district, has also become known as Hammam Āgh Avāyeli.
