Anzali lagoon
The Anzali lagoon is located south-west of the Caspian Sea between the towns of Anzali, Soum'esara, Rasht, the areas of Kapurchal and Abkenar-e Anzali (Gilan region) and includes some islands.
The international lagoon of Anzali, with an area of about 20 thousand hectares and an average depth of one meter, 11 main and 30 secondary rivers, is considered among the coastal, natural, freshwater lagoons of the country with hot and humid summers and mild winters and by means of a waterway it is connected to the Caspian Sea.
It is among the most interesting and large natural fauna habitats in Iran and welcomes many migratory birds every year and is the place where aquatic animals lay their eggs; with over 100 bird species and 50 fish species, it is home to hundreds of rare plants.
The most famous of these is the "lagoon tulip" which is world famous. The sea tulips (Pyura spinifera), the water lilies and the wide reeds around them have created a spectacular panorama; this area is a paradise for birdwhatching enthusiasts and for those who want to get to know birds and various aquatic animals, a place where you can go boating in the midst of fresh plants, fish etc.
