Rural Heritage Museum
The rural heritage museum is located in the Saravan forest park in the city of Rasht, near the Khalij Fars highway (Gilan region) and in 2005 it was established as the first eco-museum in Iran.
The idea of building this museum came after the June 1970 earthquake that hit the Gilan region, which intensified the process of destruction of traditional buildings.
This museum, with the aim of preserving and strengthening the rural heritage, nature, history, culture and industry and making known the culture and architecture of the Gilan region and according to the possibilities the peculiarities and cultural-environmental needs, it was built in an open space and covers an area of approximately 250 hectares.
In the rural heritage museum you can actually observe and experience local life scenes such as:
-the traditional houses of the Gilan region with an antiquity between 65 and 180 years which have been transferred to this museum from their main location and reproduced here preserving their original appearance.
-The rural and typical areas of the village with the mosque, the madrasa, the traditional coffee house, the coal kiln, the rice fields, the rice storage, the talambar (place for breeding silkworms), the stable, the vegetable garden, the blacksmith's workshop, the tea plantation, the orange grove, the place where birds and livestock are kept, everyday objects, farm tools, traditional decorations and local customs ..
-Fresh local bread prepared by Gilaki women wearing traditional clothes, which is among the best known and most delicious foods.
- Festivals and local rites, performing musical concerts and popular songs.
-The bazaar, the craft workshops, the photography and painting exhibitions, the architectural works, the local customs and the laid table; the museum of famous people of the region in a three-storey building displays statues of important personalities from the Gilan region.
