Black Church

The Black Church (Qara Kelisa or Tatavus)

Qara Kelisa or The Black Church is the burial place of San Taddeo. Historical sources reveal that in the era Sassanid one part of the Armenians was of the Zoroastrian faith, while the other was a follower of Mithraism. In the year 43 d. C. two men called Tatavus and Bartholomew undertook the preaching of Christianity in the Azarbayejan.
