The collection presented is a selection of the stories included in the eight-volume work "Thirty stories from the chest of ancient Persian literature" (1958-1974), fruit of the passionate work of MEHDI ÂZAR YAZDI (1922 -2009), well-known author of children's literature active in Iran since the mid-fifties of the last century. The contribution of Âzar Yazdi in the dissemination of youth literature has been recognized several times before and after the disappearance of the same, so much so that in Iran the Children's Literature Day is celebrated on the day on which the anniversary occurs of the author's death. The imposing work of Âzar Yazdi, which received among others a UNESCO prize in 1966 and still enjoys wide popularity among Iranians, is a reworking aimed at the enjoyment of young people of the most savory and popular anecdotes taken from cornerstone works of classical Persian literature.
