A stolen ancient Persian sculpture returns to Tehran

An ancient Persian sculpture that had been stolen twice is on display at the national museum in Tehran. A New York court recently ordered its return to Iran. And it was the Iranian president Rohani himself who brought it back to his homeland during his last visit to the United States. Made about 25 centuries ago, the bas-relief depicts the head of a soldier. It was discovered in an archaeological dig in the early 30s at Persepolis, near today's Iranian city of Shiraz. The artifact was stolen four years after its discovery and eventually ended up in the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, where it was stolen again in 2011. Then it was seized by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office in 2017. And finally came home today peaceful strategies.
