Mo'arraq-e sang (The stone mosaic)
The cut, the arrangement (one next to the other) and the fixing of colorful polished stones aiming - through the use of instruments suitable for splitting and abrasion - to the creation of figures and images is called Mo'arraqkāri-ye sang ( processing of stone mosaic). This mosaic is used for the decoration of buildings and floors and, equally, for other types of surfaces (for example, tables). Mo'arraq-e sang is mostly made on flat and wide surfaces. In this art, in order to create a frame that outlines the main design of the mosaic (similar to those of illuminated manuscripts and miniatures), you can use brass straps and wide or narrow stone strips. The images used in Mo'arraq-e sang include figures, traditional drawings (arabesques, khattāis, calligraphy) and more.
