Minakari (The Smaltatura)

Minakari (The Smaltatura)

The enamelling or "Minakari", a creative technique that is used by the fusion of minerals to color and decorate metal surfaces (gold, silver and copper) with the traditional refined designs represented on a floral background with light blue, green, yellow or red.

At the beginning the enamel powder (minerals) is distributed homogeneously on the metal previously incised and placed in the oven bringing back the high temper (750 and 850 ° C) to allow the process of liquefaction of the mineral powder in the spaces and noses of the matallic surface . This heat treatment hardens the surface and makes it anti-scratch and gives shine. The city of Isfahan and the province of Fars are two main centers of this art.
