Iran celebrates Muharram; the memory of Imam Hossein and his companions
In Iran, a country with an absolute Shiite majority, the streets of the cities are completely 'dressed' in flags and black, green and red fabrics, the colors that symbolize mourning, Islam and the blood of martyrs
Imam Hussein and 72 of his faithful companions (peace be upon him) were barbarously brought to martyrdom about 14 centuries ago by order of the tyrant caliph of the era, Yazid, of the Umayad dynasty. The carnage, the most painful and bloody event in the history of Islam, took place in Karbala, in present-day Iraq. And in fact in Iraq, and in the Imam Hossein mausoleum today there are millions of pilgrims from all over the world.
Of course, among the Shiites, it is remembered that the greatest pain is for Hossein (peace be with him), who reaches martyrdom after suffering all the worst pains and having witnessed the courageous death of all his companions and children.
