First time of a Pope in the Gulf of Arabia !!!
On Saturday 9 February 2019, the Corriere della Sera newspaper publishes the article entitled:
Dialogue with Islam and appeal for Yemen. First time of a Pope in the Gulf of Arabia »
This article not only finds the disappointment of the Iranian community residing in Italy but raises a fuss and the social case breaks out on the part of teachers, scholars and the academic environment and in particular journalists against the published article.
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in a letter sent to the editor of the newspaper asks for a clarification and the newspaper publishes the embassy note on the same page that published the previous article.
Dear Editor of Corriere della Sera,
the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Rome with reference to the article entitled «Dialogue with Islam and appeal for Yemen. First time of a Pope in the Gulf of Arabia »9 February 2019 disputes the use of the inaccurate term« Gulf of Arabia »to indicate instead the Persian Gulf.
Numerous official documents at the United Nations (UN directives No. ST / CS / SER.A / 29 / Add.1 of the 24 January 1992, n ° ST / CS / SER.A / 29 / Add.2 of the 18 August 1994 and ST / CS / SER.A / 29 / Rev.1 of 14 May 1999) and geographical, historical and cartographic documents at Italian museums and institutions attest to the denomination of the Persian Gulf. In October 2018, the World Intellectual Property Organization as a UN agency registered the Persian Gulf in an official certificate based on the Lisbon agreement for the protection of designations of origin and their international registration. Therefore any other indication would be a clear failure to comply. The Iranian nation is very sensitive to its own civilization, history and culture and its denominations and identifying indications, in particular to that majestic body of water bordering the south of Iran, which is historically and internationally known as the Persian Gulf. The Islamic Republic of Iran is a staunch supporter of brotherhood, unity and solidarity with its neighbors. At the same time, it insists on the principles of its national and territorial unity and attaches great importance to the conservation of the historical names of its territory, including the Persian Gulf. This Representation requests the publication of this clarification in compliance with the Press Law n. 47 of 8.2.1948, art.8.
