Gholam Reza Takhti
Gholam Reza Takhti, known as "Jahān Pahlevān"(Pahlevan of the world, that is a sort of hero for its sportiness, loyalty and devotion to the people), is a famous Iranian wrestler, born the 27 August of 1930 in a modest and religious family in the Khāni Ābād district of Tehran.
Gholām Reza Takhti, is the most admirable champion in the history of professional sport in Iran, as well as a conqueror of high podiums in the world struggle and a well-known face not only in Iran, but also in the history of world sport.
It can be said that Takhti is the most famous, popular and beloved sportsman from the Iranian people. Gholām Rezā started playing sports at a young age and stood out for the passion and remarkable talent he demonstrated in the fight. Takhti with training and an exemplary perseverance, step by step, became part of the Iranian national team and in the first edition of the World Championships in freestyle wrestling (Helsinki, 1951) despite having just 21 years, won the second place in the Olympics of Melbourne's 1956 together with Emām Ali Habibi, conquered the first gold medals of Iran's sporting history in the Olympic Games.
In the course of his sporting life, he obtained numerous awards for the Iranian people, winning various medals of value for his country. Takhti occupies the thirteenth place in the list of the best of the century of FILA (International Federation of Associated Fights). He is one of the three Iranian wrestlers (alongside Emām Ali Habibi and Abdallah Movahed) whose image was placed in FILA's celebrity salon.
Takhti's loyalty, generosity, and human endowments were not limited only to social circles and his encounters with people; his particular character, behavior, actions and nobility of mind towards his rivals in sports competitions, have left indelible memories to his opponents.
Takhti was also skilled in "traditional sport" and wrestling pahlevāni and three times it has become Pahlevan Iran.
The news of his passing the 7 January 1958 in Tehrān threw everyone into a deep sadness; his mausoleum is located in Ebn-e Bābooyeh in the city of Rey
