Dayereh

Dayereh; Persian Musical Instrument

The dāyereh is part of the single-skin membranophonic instruments (an open side) with a body similar to a frame. This instrument in various parts of Iran is known by names like dāyre, dārye, dāryeh, deyreh, dāvreh, dyāreh, dab, dap, daf, dezireh, das dāyereh, dāyereh zangi, ghāvvāl, arbuneh, sammā, dyeh etc. dāyereh consists of a wooden frame in the shape of a circle, a part is covered with leather and in the inner membrane of the frame a ring, cymbals of metal, bells, bells and metal caps are attached in different ways. The dāyereh is taken with one hand and played with two.

In some areas of Iran it is held upside down on two legs while seated and so played. The dāyereh widespread in the various areas of the country differ in their structure mainly for the modality and type of attachment of the rattles, rings, caps and bells that are joined to the internal membrane of the body or to the frame.

The dāyereh is played along with the instruments used in every area, usually during weddings and holidays.
