santur; Persian Musical Instrument
The santur with the shape of an isosceles trapezoid, is part of the plectrum chordophilous instruments with indeterminate sound and for its manufacture wood and metal is used. This instrument consists of the harmonic case, from the table above the case, from bridges, from a bridge, from a wire on it, from pegs, from the nut, from simgir and the tuning key.
The santur is played while seated by means of two wooden rods and is positioned with the longer side horizontally in front of the musician. This instrument usually has 72 strings of which 36 in groups of four are placed on nine jumpers on the right side and their color is yellow; while the other 36 strings in groups of four are on nine jumpers on the left side and their color is white.
Today the santur is also manufactured with 10 or 11 bridges. Its usual phonic extension is equal to three octaves and one note. It has both the capabilities of a solo instrument and an orchestra.
