Ney anban

Ney anban; Persian Musical Instrument

The ney anbān is a wind instrument that dates back to around 2 thousand years and, with some difference in the external form, is widespread in various countries. It is the most well-known musical instrument of southern Iran, widespread in the regions of Bushehr, Khuzestān, Hormozgān and Kermān and mostly played during weddings and holidays.

The Iranian ney anbān is a bit bigger than the common one dozaleh, has at most seven holes and the lower curved end is attached to a bag by the name Anban  which is completely isolated so that from the point of attachment the air does not come out or enter.

Near the joint comes out another barrel of indefinite length whose place of exit is also carefully isolated; the musician grasps the instrument with his mouth, inflates the bag with air and with the pressure of the elbow on the bag, which while playing is placed under the armpit, insuffles the air into the barrel and opens and closes the holes with his fingers .
