Maranjab Caravanserai

The Maranjab Caravanserai which took its name from the desert of the same name is located in the desert area of Ārān and Bidgol, next to the salt lake in the region of Esfahan and was built by the will of the Shāh Abbās in the year 1012 of the lunar Hegira along the path of the Silk Road-as a resting place and fortress to preserve the security of the passage of goods from China to Europe and vicevers- and as a link between the Khorāsān and Esfahān.
This brick caravanserai with an area of 3500 square meters and with 29 rooms, is located in the southern edge of Lake Qom and 50 km north-east from the city center of Ārān and Bidgal.
This historic building is a square-shaped fortress with six towers arranged along the walls and is equipped with a qanāt of fresh water. Every year it hosts local and foreign tourists, nature photographers and directors for the setting of historical events that take place in the deserts of the Arab countries and the African Sahara.
This caravanserai is also one of Iran's most important observers, attracting sky enthusiasts from different parts of the country. These groups are positioned on the roof of the caravanserai and aim their telescopes and binocular cameras towards the sky to be able to observe the beauties of the firmament in relaxing silence.
On the south side of the building there is a swimming pool measuring approximately 4 × 10 meters. Its water fills up from a spring that flows under it which is also the water used by the caravanserai.
The presence of such a source rich in clear water, along with some tall trees in the middle of the dry desert environment is a great and incredible wealth that causes amazement in the travelers who come to this place.
