On the occasion of the Day of Hafez, the Supreme Persian Poet, the SSML San Domenico University Institute is pleased to announce a special event dedicated to the presentation of the Persian Language, Culture and Literature Course, which will be held on Monday 13 October 2025 at 14:00 pm in the San Tommaso Hall of the headquarters in Via Casilina 233, Rome. The meeting is taking place on the occasion of Hafez Day, the Great Persian Poet, a central figure in Persian and world literature, whose verses have continued to inspire readers and scholars around the world for over seven centuries. A unique educational opportunity The Persian Language, Culture and Literature Course represents an educational path of excellence in the Italian academic landscape. Students can choose to take it as a third language, with a total of 18 credits, within the three-year degree program in Linguistic Mediation at SSML San Domenico, or as a single course open to all those who wish to deepen their knowledge of this extraordinary cultural tradition. Studying the Persian language offers direct access to a millennia-old literary heritage that includes immortal works by poets such as Rumi, Hafez, Ferdowsi, and Saadi. It also represents a linguistic skill that is increasingly in demand in international relations, cultural diplomacy, and trade with Persian-speaking countries. Event Program The Open Day will be divided into several sections, designed to offer participants an immersive experience in Persian culture: Institutional greetings from Professor Adriana Bisirri, Rector of SSML San Domenico, who will welcome participants and illustrate the strategic importance of this new course in the institute's educational offering. Course presentation, which will be explained in detail by the instructor, including the curriculum, educational objectives, and the linguistic and cultural skills students will acquire during their studies. Career opportunities related to knowledge of the Persian language in the contemporary international context will also be presented. A poetic-musical moment dedicated to Hafez: participants will be able to listen to readings of some of the great Persian poet's most famous verses, recited both in the original language and in Italian translation. The poems will be accompanied by traditional Persian music, creating an evocative atmosphere that will allow the audience to fully immerse themselves in the aesthetic and spiritual sensibilities of Persian culture. A Persian calligraphy workshop: participants will have the opportunity to explore the ancient art of calligraphy, one of the most refined and appreciated artistic expressions in the Persian and Islamic world. Under the guidance of experts, you will be able to directly experience the techniques of ornamental writing, discovering how calligraphy is not just a means of communication, but a true art form that combines aesthetics, spirituality, and technical mastery.
