August 23 in Iran commemorates the great Persian scholar and doctor Avicenna.
Avicenna (980 – 1037) was a Persian doctor, philosopher, mathematician, logician and physicist or a transdisciplinary and multidimensional scientist in the golden age of Islamic civilization known to the world, particularly in Italy.
His most famous works are The Book of Healing and The Canon of Medicine (also known as Qānūn) which shine in the sky of man's science and thought.
August 22 was named “Avicenna Day” in Iran.
His medical works had hundreds of reprints in Europe and were regarded as academic texts in the university.
Avicenna's books have been translated into all languages and recognized as the basis of medicine for six centuries, especially by the polytechnic schools of France and Italy, in which these books constituted the basis of medical teaching.
The birth anniversary of this great Persian figure has also been called the “National Doctor's Day”.
